Presidency will continue to pay Zuma's legal fees as agreed

The Presidency will continue to pay the legal fees of former president Jacob Zuma based on a 2006 agreement, unless a court reviews the arrangement and sets it aside.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was replying to the EFF and DA regarding the decision to pay for Zuma's legal fees in his corruption trial since 2006.
 

Meanwhile, the DA’s federal council chairperson, James Selfe said his party was seeking a declaratory order that payment of all the legal fees for former president Jacob Zuma's court woes be declared unlawful.

Mabuza reassures Zwelithini that Ingonyama Trust matter will be handled at 'presidential level'

King Goodwill Zwelithini's concerns over the high-level panel's recommendations that the Ingonyama Trust Act be repealed or amended would be discussed at presidential level, Deputy President David Mabuza assured the king yesterday.

Mabuza was speaking in Durban during a meeting between government officials and traditional leaders.

A November 2017 report by the panel headed by former president Kgalema Motlanthe also recommended that the trust be dissolved.

The trust administers 2.8-million hectares of land on behalf of King Zwelithini.

EFF urges the state to declare state of emergency over listeriosis outbreak

The EFF is demanding that President Cyril Ramaphosa declare a state of emergency to deal with the listeriosis outbreak that has claimed more than 180 lives.

The party has recommended wide-ranging measures, including ensuring that all food processing plants are tested to ensure they are free of the food-borne disease.

The EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said the disease, which was traced to Tiger Brands' Enterprise factories in Polokwane and Germiston and a Rainbow Chicken facility in the Free State, was threatening the most fundamental human right; which was the right to life.
