Phosa says when the ANC dies it must be buried

Former ANC treasurer general Mathews Phosa believes the party is headed for the rubbish pit unless it stops denying its past mistakes.

Phosa used the words "death" and "funeral" when asked by News24 about his thoughts on the liberation movement, come its elective conference in December.

Phosa said that when the ANC dies, members must bury it - but he doesn’t want to be “a pallbearer."

The veteran sees doom and gloom for the party, and has put up his hand as a possible replacement for President Jacob Zuma when the ANC holds its 54th national elective conference in December.

Mbeki lauded for comments on noninterference in Zimbabwe

Former president Thabo Mbeki has been lauded for urging South Africans not to interfere in Zimbabwean affairs, a report says.

Mbeki recently told South Africans to "stay clear" of criticising aged Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, adding that the veteran leader should only be "shown the door" by his own people.

Mbeki repeated what he has long said on the topic while speaking during a discussion with young people involved in his foundation.

I don't know where #GuptaEmails come from

President Jacob Zuma says he has no idea where the so-called #GuptaEmails have come from, and they will be tested during three separate probes into State capture.

Zuma was answering questions in the National Assembly yesterday when he said the country must let the law takes its course around probes into State capture.

National Freedom Party MP Nhlanhlakayise Khubisa asked the heavily scandal-prone leader in a supplementary question during his quarterly answering of questions by MPs, if it was urgent for his government to "harness" the continuous leak of the damning emails, to protect the country.

"The very fact that every Sunday, the emails or whatever, are up there, it indicates how transparent the country is," Zuma averred.
