Constitutional Court to rule on motion of no confidence secret ballot

The Constitutional Court will today make its ruling on the United Democratic Movement's application to force National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete to conduct the vote of no confidence on President Jacob Zuma as a secret ballot.

Political parties were due to debate a motion of no confidence on Zuma on April 18 but the UDM, EFF and DA asked for a postponement after the Constitutional Court allowed the UDM direct access to argue its case that MPs be allowed to vote in the motion by secret ballot.

Zuma to face state capture, resignation questions in Parliament

President Jacob Zuma is due to face some tough questions today during his quarterly appearance in Parliament to answer questions from Members of Parliament.

MP's are expected to focus on some of the controversial developments since his last question and answer session in March which a mass Cabinet reshuffle, three sovereign credit rating downgrades, and the leak of the infamous #GuptaEmails seen as detailing the extent of the Gupta family's influence on him, his family, Cabinet and State Owned Enterprises.

Court dismisses Breytenbach's application

A Pretoria North Regional Court magistrate yesterday dismissed an application for the dismissal of two counts of charges against former prosecutor and DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach, and her former lawyer Gerhard Wagenaar.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku said the matter had been postponed to October 9, for the accused to present their case on all charges.

Mfaku said the court only discharged the pair on two counts of  obstructing or defeating the ends of justice - which related to their refusal to hand over an official laptop computer to NPA officials, who were investigating acts of misconduct against Breytenbach.
