Zille submits reasons why she shouldn't be suspended:

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille has submitted her reasons for why she should not be suspended from the DA activities to the party's Federal Executive.

Zille confirmed on Tuesday that she sent through her requested reasons before the 5pm deadline, following a notice of intention to suspend served on her by the party over the weekend.

She is facing charges of bringing the party into disrepute following tweets she posted on March 16 that were interpreted as a defence of colonialism.

Freedom Under Law case against Nomcebo Jiba postponed

The case involving Freedom Under Law and the National Director of Public Prosecutions Authority’s Nomgcobo Jiba was yesterday postponed to October 30 and 31.

FUL made an application to the North Gauteng High Court to review the decision of the NDPP to withdraw charges of perjury and fraud against Jiba.

FUL also asked the court to declare President Jacob Zuma’s failure to institute an inquiry into the conduct of Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi, the Special Director of Public Prosecutions, unlawful and to direct the president to institute such an inquiry.

Parliament endorses 6 names for gender commission

Parliament yesterday formally endorsed six names to serve on the Commission for Gender Equality.

The six received overwhelming support from 284 MPs, following interviews and screenings by the ad hoc committee on gender equality.

They are Tamara Mathebula, Nthabiseng Moleko, Sediko Rakolote, Nthabiseng MogaleSethembiso Mthembu, and Dr Praveena Sukhraj-Ely.

Their names will be sent to President Jacob Zuma for approval.
