Today is the last day to lodge complaints or comments about Public Protector candidates.

The candidates were announced on Tuesday, June 28, giving the public over a week to make submissions to the ad hoc committee tasked with finding a replacement for Thuli Madonsela, whose term comes to an end in October.

Committee chairperson Makhosi Khoza said at the time that objections against a nominee or applicant would not be automatically used to eliminate a particular candidate.
Khoza said the committee would follow due process in validating such objections.

The candidates included deputy Public Protector Kevin Malunga, ANC MP Loyiso Mpumlwana, EFF chairperson Dali Mpofu, Judge Sirajudien Desai and academic Professor Pierre de Vos.

Candidates would be shortlisted and interviews will be held after the August 3 elections.

Kenya’s Equity Bank has been rated the fasted growing bank in Africa by The Banker report, a globally renowned publication of the Financial Times of London.

The report said three Kenyan banks recorded positive Tier 1 capital growth with Equity Bank ranked the top in the country and the continent.

All six South African banks in this year’s Top 1000 World Banks ranking registered a fall in Tier 1 capital. In each case, this decline was by more than ten per cent year on year, the report said.

The SACP was insincere in its recent repeated calls against censorship and the leadership of SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng, DA leader Mmusi Maimane said yesterday.

Maimane said it had been a project of the alliance to capture the SABC for the purpose of giving better coverage to the ANC.

He said the DA’s research revealed that the ANC got six times more coverage than any opposition party. He called for the alliance to be investigated as well as for Motsoeneng to be suspended.
