SAA and Eskom expected to take centre stage at ANC's NEC meeting

The ANC's national executive committee is expected to hammer out some tough points around South African Airways and Eskom this coming weekend.

Issues concerning SAA were partially discussed at the party's last meeting shortly before the January 8 celebrations.

Amongst issues discussed was the topic around SAA and the government's decision to put it under business rescue and the possible sale of the State-owned enterprise.

On Thursday, Business Insider reported SAA had put billions of rand of its fleet up for sale. But denied that it was part of its business rescue.

Gordhan says it will take a long time for Eskom to recover fully

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has conceded it will take a long time for Eskom to recover fully from the damage caused by State capture.

Gordhan also explained that, in response to allegations of political interference at Eskom, the Memorandum of Incorporation of Company explicitly laid out the responsibilities, duties and rights of the shareholder.

He was responding to a parliamentary question from the newly inducted chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Veronica Mente in her capacity as an MP.

DA boots out Joburg councillors who voted for ANC

Two DA members, who helped unseat the party in the Johannesburg metro last year, are no longer members of the DA.

The two voted for Geoff Makhubo - an ANC candidate for mayor during a sitting of the Johannesburg council in December 2019.

A third member is still unknown at this stage.

According to DA councillor Funzela Ngobeni, the two councillors were referred to the federal legal commission immediately after the council met on December 11, 2019.
