Ramaphosa says Zuma should not be humiliated in leadership question

If President Jacob Zuma has to leave before his term ends, he should not be humiliated in the process, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa told eNCA yesterday.

Speaking in his capacity as newly elected president of the majority party the ANC, Ramaphosa conceded that people were eager to know if Zuma will stay on until the end of his term in 2019, or be asked to leave early.

Ramaphosa told Dan Moyane in a one-on-one interview that the matter needed to be dealt with maturity and with the proper decorum.

De Lille wants a chance to clear her name

All Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille wants, is an opportunity to clear her name.

The DA Federal Executive Council yesterday evening announced that it resolved to institute charges of alleged misconduct against De Lille with its Federal Legal Council.

Furthermore, she will not be suspended as mayor, and the party will not support a motion of no confidence against her but she will no longer be charged with dealing with the City of Cape Town's response to the water crises.

She added that it was disappointing that they were already stripping her of her powers which they weren't allowed to do in terms of her statutory duties before the disciplinary process has been concluded.

Africa’s first female president to be expelled from Liberian party

Outgoing Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first ever female President, is to be expelled from her party for failing to support its candidate in a recent presidential election, the Associated Press reported.

Unity party spokesperson Mohammed Ali said Sirleaf had violated the party’s constitution by not supporting its Vice President Joseph Boakai, who served as Sirleaf’s deputy in government for 12 years, in the vote, won by former international soccer star George Weah.

Also making headlines:

EFF leader Julius Malema says the ANC is a follower of the EFF and is no longer leading, following the ruling party’s recent call for the expropriation of land without compensation.
