Ramaphosa calls on supporters to build ANC's legacy

Hundreds of ANC supporters packed the Mayibuye Multipurpose Centre in Galeshewe, in Kimberley, as the party celebrated 108 years on Wednesday.

Delivering his address at the event, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa called on members to build the party's legacy.

Ramaphosa said the ANC needed to get rid of corruption and reposition the party so that it would be more loved.

He assured the cheering crowd that in doing so, the ANC would be fit for purpose and fit to continue addressing the needs of its people.

Eskom to apply rolling blackouts until Friday morning

South Africa's electricity system remains severely constrained and unpredictable and this will necessitate rolling power cuts until Friday morning.

In a statement Eskom, which has struggled with breakdowns in its generating units in recent months, said it had lost additional generation capacity overnight with breakdowns of over 14 000 megawatt.

The power utility said its emergency reserves are insufficient to meet the demand for electricity during the day.

Sudan seizes assets of Bashir's former ruling party

Sudan has seized the assets of ousted President Omar al-Bashir's now dissolved party, a senior member of the country's ruling sovereign council said.

The National Congress Party's assets were seized under a law that was passed in November and ordered the party's dissolution.

The law's implementation is widely seen as a test of how far Sudan's transitional authorities are willing or able to go to dismantle the system built up by Bashir, who was ousted in April after nearly three decades in power.
