Agrizzi will no longer testify at Mokgoro inquiry as expected

Ex-Bosasa boss turned whistleblower Angelo Agrizzi will no longer appear before the Justice Mokgoro inquiry on Friday. 

The commission's spokesperson Bongiwe Gambu confirmed Agrizzi has been advised about his constitutional rights in light of the pending serious criminal charges against him.  

Last month, Agrizzi testified at the Zondo commission of inquiry into State capture that suspended deputy prosecutions boss Nomgcobo Jiba accepted bribes and blocked prosecutions.

 

SA infrastructure think tank slams Eskom's hiring of foreign engineers

The Infrastructure Research Development Centre said on Thursday it opposed the government's decision to bring in external engineers to investigate the crisis at State utility Eskom's power stations.

Public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan on Wednesday told Parliament that a panel of experts would will be roped in to investigate what caused seven generating units to collapse at the weekend.

IRDC executive director Bongani Mankewu said the foreign engineers will not assist in this regard and added that this will lead to misleading the investment options for the country."

 

Msimanga says R20 billion in irregular expenditure identified in Gauteng

Former Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga, who is the now the DA Gauteng premier candidate, on Thursday said that under Premier David Makhura, the Auditor-General had identified over R20-billions of irregular, unauthorised, and wasteful expenditure.

Msimanga said if this money had been spent on health, education, and housing it could have built five new hospitals, 20 clinics, 30 schools, and 70 000 houses.

He said Gauteng was the old economic powerhouse that drove South Africa.
