Court dismisses Moyane's bid to overturn his dismissal

The North Gauteng High Court has dismissed axed Sars commissioner Tom Moyane's bid to have his dismissal overturned.

Moyane mounted a legal battle challenging the powers of the Nugent Commission of Inquiry which was tasked with investigating administrative governance at Sars.

The Commission's interim report recommended that President Cyril Ramaphosa sack Moyane, which he did in November.

Moyane had also approached the court to interdict Ramaphosa from advertising and filling his post, which has since been occupied by Mark Kingon in an acting capacity.

The Commission's final report is expected on Friday.

ANC Women’s League is calling for Pule Mabe’s suspension following sexual harassment allegations

Following allegations of sexual harassment against ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe, the ANC Women’s League has called for his suspension.

In a statement issued on Monday night, the Women’s League said it had noted the "disturbing reports" alleging that Mabe had sexually harassed his personal assistant.

The Women’s League secretary general Meokgo Matuba said the ruling party must also consider suspending Mabe from all ANC duties pending the outcome of the case.

The 26-year-old accuser, who asked not to be named, is expected to present her case before the ANC's grievance committee tomorrow.

DA readies court papers to have section 25 of the Constitution reviewed

DA leader Mmusi Maimane has revealed that the DA is readying its court application to have the Joint Constitutional Review Committee's report on section 25 of the Constitution reviewed.

Both houses of Parliament last week adopted the report, which recommends that the Constitution is amended to allow expropriation of land without compensation.

On Thursday, the National Assembly passed a motion, brought by ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu, to establish an ad hoc committee to draft the amendment.
