EFF leader Julius Malema is expected to brief the media on his recent trip to the UK.

Malema, his deputy Floyd Shivambu, and national chairperson of the EFF Advocate Dali Mpofu had been on a tour in England which included speaking at the Oxford Union at Oxford University and meeting with academics, international firms and the SA Chamber of Commerce in London.

Since his return, Malema had come under fire for his negative comments about former president and struggle icon Nelson Mandela, which he made during his address at Oxford University last week Wednesday.

Malema criticised the late former president, saying that he had turned his back on parts of the revolution after being released from prison.

The ANC, its youth league, Cope, as well as the Mandela family had hit back at Malema, saying his utterances were in bad taste.

Burkina Faso's president-elect Roch Marc Kabore promised yesterday to tackle "fundamental needs" like sanitation as well as reviving an economy that has lost momentum in the 13 months since his veteran predecessor was toppled in a popular uprising.

Kabore served as prime minister and head of the National Assembly under Blaise Compaore, who was overthrown last year after trying to change the constitution to extend his 27 years in power.

His election on Sunday was a pivotal moment for the West African nation, which had been ruled by leaders who came to power in coups for most of its history since independence from France in 1960.

The drive to have Premier Helen Zille impeached is not political, nor is it grandstanding, the ANC said yesterday.

Addressing media before the start of the impeachment debate against Zille, ANC Western Cape leader Marius Fransman said the ruling party believed she had committed a serious crime in hiring Paul Scheepers.

The ANC alleges that Zille hired Scheepers to spy on it and laid charges against her at the Cape Town central police station for "employing a private covert intelligence investigator to execute illegal communications surveillance work on state land and property".

Fransman said Zille was lying about the reasons for employing Scheepers' company Eagle Eye Technology Solutions, which she said was to debug her phone.

He said the motion to impeach her was not political grandstanding at all.

Zille had since denied the allegations saying that she only met Scheepers once, briefly.
