Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (or AMCU) leader Joseph Mathunjwa said the African National Congress (or ANC) had, through the 2012 Marikana massacre, betrayed black workers.

Mathunjwa said the massacre in Marikana was well-planned by the ANC.

He was addressing a student-led Marikana solidarity march at the University of Cape Town, where he said the ANC had failed the country on a number of occasions.

According to the AMCU leader, all that had occurred through the democratic transition was the transfer of power from a white capitalist to a black one.

Mathunjwa said similar to the colonial era, black workers were being murdered for minerals, and the belief that democracy would bring relief for the working class had been shattered.

The United Nations' (or UN's) troubled peacekeeping mission in Central African Republic (or CAR) has been hit with new allegations of rape by peacekeepers, including one underage victim.

Last week the head of the CAR mission, known as MINUSCA, was sacked after a series of allegations of sexual abuse and excessive use of force by peacekeepers.

UN spokesperson Vannina Maestracci said a new series of disturbing allegations of misconduct had recently come to light.

They were reported to MINUSCA's human rights division on August 12 by the families of the three women, she said.

Since its establishment in April 2014, MINUSCA has received 61 allegations of possible misconduct. That includes 13 cases of possible sexual exploitation and abuse.

Media houses and other organisations challenging the jamming of signal during the State of the Nation Address, in February, and Parliament's policy on broadcasting, have been granted leave to appeal the matter at the Supreme Court of Appeal.

According to a statement by Parliament on May 28 the Western Cape High Court dismissed the application by Media24, Primedia, the South African National Editors' Forum and two other parties.

They were challenging a clause in Parliament's broadcasting policy that dealt with coverage of unparliamentary  behaviour and the use of a signal jammer during the address to be declared unlawful.

Parliament said the court found that there was no obligation on it to broadcast conduct that clearly obstructed or disrupted its proceedings and conduct that unreasonably impaired its ability to conduct its business in an orderly and regular manner acceptable in a democratic society simply because such conduct was not legitimate Parliamentary business.

It also found that Parliament could not be blamed for the use of the jamming device.
