The eThekwini Municipality has given a 101-million-rand cash injection for the completion of the first phase of the Cornubia housing project.

Head of Communications Tozi Mthethwa said the decision was taken during an executive meeting on Tuesday.

City manager Sibusiso Sithole said funding to complete the Cornubia Integrated Human Settlement Development needed to be approved so that people could be relocated from transit camps into proper homes.

Chairperson of the Human Settlements and Infrastructure Committee Nigel Gumede said government had the responsibility of providing housing to South Africans.

A car bomb near an Egyptian state security building and courthouse wounded at least 29 people early on Thursday.

A man was seen parking a vehicle that exploded after he had stepped away from it.

Militants based in Sinai, who support the Islamic State group that controls parts of Iraq and Syria and have a presence in Egypt's neighbour Libya, have previously claimed responsibility for attacks on security forces.

Hundreds of soldiers and police have been killed since the army toppled Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in 2013 after mass protests against his rule.

Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha announced on Wednesday that Oscar Pistorius will no longer be released on correctional supervision on Friday because of a technicality.

This was because the decision to release him on correctional supervision was taken before he had served one sixth of his sentence.

Ministry spokesperson advocate Mthunzi Mhaga confirmed that Minister Masutha had decided to refer the decision to place Pistorius under correctional supervision to the Correctional Supervision and Parole Review Board.

Mhaga added that the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board of Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre had taken a decision to place Paralympic runner under correctional supervision.

However, on 17 August, the Minister received a petition from the Progressive Womens’ Movement of South Africa expressing their opposition to the imminent release of Pistorius.

The movement requested the Minister, in his capacity as the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, not to approve the release citing the Parole Board's insensitivity to the release of the offender during Womens’ Month.
