South Africans were sick and tired of President Jacob Zuma, and that was why the ANC could not fill a stadium during their manifesto launch, DA leader Mmusi Maimane believed.

The ANC launched its election manifesto in Nelson Mandela Bay, at the 46 000 seater stadium, which was not filled to capacity despite the ANC vowing 100 000 supporters would be there to support it.

Maimane said South Africans loved the Constitution and didn’t want to watch it being broken.

Maimane said the only people at the manifesto launch were friends of ministers and family friends. He added that the DA's chances of snatching the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro from the ANC were good.

There were drum rolls, blue confetti and even fire as DA Western Cape leader, Patricia De Lille, launched her mayoral campaign yesterday.

She was supported by party leader, Mmusi Maimane.

The event was also attended by former DA leader and premier Helen Zille.

De Lille launched her mayoral campaign at the Swartklip Indoor Sports Centre in Mitchells Plain.

Maimane said in choosing De Lille, the party had chosen someone who wanted to be a servant of the people.

A vote for the ANC is a vote for the Constitution, ANC President Jacob Zuma told a lethargic crowd, some of whom left during his speech, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Zuma's address at the ANC's manifesto launch was peppered with references to the Constitution.

The Manifesto launch came a few weeks after the Constitutional Court found he had acted inconsistently with the Constitution when he failed to comply with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report on non-security upgrades to his Nkandla home.

Zuma said the ANC was guided by the Constitution of the Republic in all the work it does to improve the quality of life of the people.

Also making headlines:

Malema  said Zuma was not the EFF’s enemy.

And, Zuma said the ANC had a concrete plan in place.
