Cosatu yesterday accused auditing firm KPMG and three of the country’s big four banks of “political posturing” for unexpectedly cutting ties with Gupta-owned businesses and shutting down their bank accounts.

The move to close the bank accounts came amid allegations that the Gupta family had improper influence over President Jacob Zuma.

Cosatu spokesperson, Sizwe Pamla claimed that the banks’ decision was nothing but political posturing, which would not only negatively affect the gluttonous Guptas, but would also affect the innocent workers.

Former president Thabo Mbeki has denied introducing the controversial Gupta family to President Jacob Zuma.

Mbeki was reacting to allegations by Mpho Masemola, a representative of the Ex-Political Prisoners Association, that the Guptas were a legacy of his presidency.

In an interview with eNCA on Sunday, Masemola said the Gupta family was introduced to Jacob Zuma by Mbeki and Essop Pahad.

Mbeki rubbished these claims through a statement issued by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation.

He said that, even if the claims were true and he had introduced them, he could not be held responsible for what may or may not have happened between Zuma and the Guptas thereafter.

Cope has vowed to boycott proceedings in the National Assembly after the ANC in Parliament refused to take action against President Jacob Zuma following the Constitutional Court ruling.

Spokesperson Dennis Bloem said the party's executive committee had considered the judgment, which was handed down two weeks ago.

Bloem said the executive committee noted that the refusal of the ruling party in Parliament to act against the incumbent in the office of the president made it guilty of contempt of court.

He said that the party would approach the Constitutional Court to "seek clarity on the way forward".
