Making headlines:

EFF supporters gathered for a night vigil in the Free State
And, SABC 8 remain resolute despite death threats

National Prosecuting Authority head Shaun Abrahams this week confirmed that President Jacob Zuma's second wife, Nompumelelo Ntuli-Zuma, remained a suspect in a case involving an alleged plot to poison her husband, her lawyer said yesterday.

Lashing out at the 18-month delay since the attempted murder case was opened, Ntuli-Zuma's lawyer Ulrich Roux, said that this week's confirmation that Ntuli-Zuma, nevertheless remained a suspect "smacks of some kind of agenda".

After receiving no further feedback, Roux said that, in September this year, he sent a request directly to Abrahams asking him to provide an update on the investigation as well as indicate the status of Ntuli-Zuma in the matter.

On the fourth of January 2015, Ntuli-Zuma was apparently asked by State Security Minister David Mahlobo to leave the Nkandla homestead "under the guise that she was being implicated in a sensitive matter that was being investigated," said Roux.

Economic Freedom Fighters supporters gathered at Batho township in Bloemfontein yesterday for a night vigil ahead of party leader Julius Malema’s appearance in a local court.

Malema faces charges relating to the alleged contravention of the Riotous Assemblies Act, which prohibits gatherings that might be deemed a public disruption by the State. The State charged that in December 2014, Malema called on people to occupy vacant land during the EFF elective conference in Bloemfontein, where he was elected EFF president.

He repeated the same statement in June this year near Madadeni, Newcastle, in KwaZulu-Natal. Malema appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on November 7. The case was postponed after Malema sought to lodge an application with the Constitutional Court to have the apartheid-era act and the charges levelled against him declared unconstitutional.

Despite intimidation and death threats, the SABC 8 yesterday reiterated their determination to go ahead with a Constitutional Court case probing possible censorship at the national broadcaster.

Their lawyer, Aslam Moosajee has previously been sent text messages containing death threats against some of the journalists demanding they drop an upcoming Constitutional Court case asking for measures to protect the national broadcaster's newsroom against censorship or interference.

The SABC came in for criticism in July when it fired Suna Venter, Foeta Krige, Krivani Pillay, Thandeka Gqubule, Busisiwe Ntuli, Lukhanyo Calata, Vuyo Mvoko and Jacques Steenkamp for speaking out against the broadcaster's policy to not show footage of violent protests.
