Making headlines:
Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa says suspended former crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli's security clearance has lapsed.
The minister confirms that both Mdluli's clearance and that of crime intelligence finance chief Solly Lazarus had expired.
Democratic Allliance MP Dianne Kohler Barnard says it is unfathomable that a man, without passing the necessary security tests, is allowed to oversee and control the police officers guarding of the president, ministers and premiers.
The African Union plans to refer the situation in Mali to the United Nations Security Council so that it can create a framework for tackling the worsening crisis there.
Mali, once regarded as a fine example of African democracy, collapsed into chaos after soldiers toppled the president in March. A regionally backed transitional government has been set up in Bamako to organise new presidential elections within a year.
Public health expert Dr Duane Blaauw says the National Health Insurance is seen as the solution to all health system ills, to the detriment of other policies. Blaauw says the NHI is seen as able to decrease the bad things about private sector healthcare, to strengthen primary healthcare and address human resource problems. He says The ANC's policy discussion document on health focused mainly on NHI.
