Making headlines:
Political analyst Moeletsi Mbeki says South Africa is being de-industrialised and turned into a welfare state because of an alliance between the black political elite and the poor.
He was delivering a lecture titled "What has the ANC achieved in nearly two decades?" at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Mbeki said there was something wrong with the way the political elite was managing South Africa, as it was the political elite which determined how the country developed.
Vote counting is underway in Egypt with the Muslim Brotherhood saying its candidate was leading the early count in Egypt's first free presidential election.
The overall result will not be clear for some time, but the well-organised Brotherhood is expected to do well.
Egyptians are likely to go back to the polls for a run-off between the top two on June 16 and 17.
Suspended police commissioner General Bheki Cele will fight against a board of inquiry report recommending his dismissal.
His spokesperson Vuyo Mkhize says Cele will use all available avenues to challenge the validity of the report.
However, President Jacob Zuma's spokesperson, Mac Maharaj, says this is speculation.

South Africa's Reserve Bank has left the repo rate unchanged at 5.5%.
And, Sudan and South Sudan agreed to restart talks next week with the aim of ending hostilities and settling disputes.
