This week, the DA-led City of Johannesburg announced that more than 6000 homes in Slovo Park and Elias Motsoaledi will be electrified by June.
For the first time, these residents will have access to safe electricity.
Ensuring that residents who live in informal settlements and in RDP housing projects have access to basic services, is part of the DA’s pro-poor mandate.
By providing these communities with electricity we are not only ensuring that they are living in dignified housing but we are also creating job opportunities.
The projects run by the DA-led City of Johannesburg in both Slovo Park and Elias Motsoaledi created the following job opportunities:
In Slovo Park
- 10 labourers employed directly by the City Power contractors;
- 1 community liaison officer employed by the City Power contractor;
- 3 SMMEs sourced from the community to employ labourers;
- 1 security SMME;
- 1 administrator; and
- 1 disabled employee
In Elias Motsoaledi
- 41 labourers and 1 community liaison officer employed through the City Power contractor and
- 1 Security SMME
Projects like these ensure that residents from the community are provided with the skills needed to seek future employment.
The people of Gauteng have suffered enough under the leadership of the ANC.
This is just the beginning; come 2019, the DA will bring Change to all the residents of this province.
