The DA in Northwest wants to send out an urgent warning to motorists who will travelling on main roads in the North West Province from today to the end of the weekend.
Due to the funeral on Saturday of the late Ruth Mompati in Vryburg, roads will be full of blue-light brigades from all over the country who will be transporting various office bearers to and from Vryburg.
The DA previously took a stand on their disregard for traffic legislation and road use which impose a direct threat to the safety of other motorists and pedestrians. Blue lights are allowed to be used on vehicles utilised for non-policing purposes only if the driver is a law-enforcement officer and in life threatening emergencies.
What however is happening is that blue-light brigades, as a standard practice, are travelling at excessive speeds, contravening traffic laws by overtaking on solid white lines, not stopping at stop signs or traffic lights etc endangering the lives of law abiding citizens – and these transgressions are committed mostly by law enforcement officers.
Various incidents have already been reported where blue-light brigades ignored road signs, robots and made themselves guilty of gross negligent driving
The DA will not tolerate this behaviour and encourages road users to write down registration plate numbers or take photos of these infringements where it is safe to do so.
Road users are encouraged to report abuse of power by these brigades to the DA
