Fellow Democrats and South Africans,

The beauty of democracy is that when you are no longer satisfied with the current government, you can use your vote at the next election to fire that government and vote for a new government that you believe will make the progress you want to see.

This is the story of Cape Town – where residents of this beautiful city chose to take a stand against a party that failed to deliver and made the choice to vote for the Democratic Alliance.

In 2006, the people of Cape Town did to the ANC what millions of South Africans will do come August 3rd – they voted for a new government. A DA government which has brought positive change through job creation, delivering better services and stopping corruption. Now, 10 years later, where the DA governs there are more jobs for more people, there is lower unemployment, there are better services. And more importantly, we have stopped corruption. We don’t waste your money and steal it. We spend it on delivering more and better services to you, the people.

For the past 10 years, the people of Cape Town have seen and felt the DA difference in their communities. They have seen and felt the change that a DA government brings. And in 7 days’ time, the people of South Africa will go to the polls and have an opportunity to make the Cape Town story South Africa’s story.

In Nelson Mandela Bay, in Tshwane, in Johannesburg, and in towns across the country South Africans will have an opportunity to vote for change that moves South Africa forward again.

Fellow democrats, let me be clear,

Our work here is not complete, there is more to be done. As long as any resident lives in poverty, we have more work to do. As long as any Capetonian lives without access to services, we have more work to do. And to carry on doing that good work, we need your vote – so that Mayor Patricia de Lille can continue making progress for this community and for everyone across the city of Cape Town.

In Cape Town, the DA government cares of the people.

Since 2006, we have run a clean administration that ensures every rand and cent of the city’s R40 billion budget designated to better the lives of residents, especially the poor, is used exactly for that.

Not to build fancy homes for politicians, not to buy expensive cars and not to stay in fancy hotels.

With the DA in government, progress has been made, and this City has moved forward.

The kind of progress where unemployment is 15% lower than the national average,

The kind of progress where more free water, electricity and sanitation are delivered to poor communities than anywhere else,

The kind of progress where nearly 25 000 title deeds have been handed over to home owners,

The kind of progress that sees open and transparent housing lists, and EPWP jobs being allocated fairly – not corruptly.

This is the progress we have made in Cape Town since 2006 and it is the kind of change we want to take to the people of Tshwane, Nelson Mandela Bay and Johannesburg.

While we won Cape Town ten years ago, through a coalition, in 2016 we are working harder than ever before to ensure that we win with an increased majority here, and a majority in the other major metros because the progress we have made here should be shared with the rest of country.

We are not saying that things a perfect in Cape Town but we can agree that they are better than they have ever been.

Where the DA governs, there is hope, there is a belief that tomorrow will be better than yesterday.

Amandla!
