People of Tshwane,

Good Day, Dumelang,

Today we launch our latest election poster here outside the esteemed Union Buildings – the seat of national government, and the centre of state power and authority.

It was outside these very buildings, just 22 years ago, that Nelson Mandela was sworn in as the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

A man of honour and integrity.

A man of incredible domestic and international respect.

A man who had a dream of a non-racial and prosperous South Africa that belonged to all you live in it – black, white, coloured and Indian – united in their diversity.

The poster we launch today is a clear and unequivocal message to every voter in South Africa. A message that says Madiba’s dream and vision for a prosperous, united and non-racial South Africa for all is alive within the DA, and can only be realised by the DA.

In order to honour that dream and to see it achieved in our nation, we must elect a government that understands, advocates and is wholeheartedly committed to that dream.

We, the DA, remain committed to building a South Africa that encapsulates this dream.

The DA’s message and Movement of Change has positively captured the hearts and minds of millions of South Africans.

It is no secret that we currently have an ANC-led and Zuma-captured government that embodies not one single quality or aspiration we hoped for some 22 years ago when Madiba become our president.

Former President Thabo, in 2005, described the ANC as “an ignoble, blood-sucking and corrupt parasite.”

Over the last couple of days, Jacob Zuma and his ANC have felt the pressure. They’ve seen the situation on the ground, they’ve seen the polls, and they’ve seen defeat on the horizon.

They have thus resorted to bigotry, hatred and racial insults in a feeble attempt to derail the DA’s Movement for Change – which is gaining momentum each and every day.

Jacob Zuma dreams of a divided and racialised South Africa, in which one race is on this side, and another race is on that side. This sort of racialised thinking has no place in a democratic South Africa.

In fulfilling Madiba’s vision we need to ensure that we accelerate redress and continue on the path of reconciliation. Redress must include accelerated land reform that empowers people with ownership, which can be used as an economic asset; Targets to promote and ensure increasing diversity in all spheres; and; Truly broad-based black economic empowerment that allows for opportunities for those who remain outside of the economy; instead of benefiting an ANC-connected elite. This is what we are working for and towards. We need to build bridges instead of burning them, because as our national motto of Unity in Diverty leads us to believe, we are indeed better together.

The ANC of today has nothing in common with the ANC of Mandela, Sisulu and Tambo. It has now become the party of Zuma, the Gupta’s and Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

That is why former President Thabo Mbeki refuses to campaign for the ANC. My question is – would Madiba be out on the streets campaigning for the ANC is he were alive today?

Madiba fought for freedom.

Madiba fought for non-racialism.

Madiba fought for dignity.

Values which are now non-existent in today’s ANC.

The opposite of almost every one of Nelson Mandela’s cherished ideals are now rife within the ANC.

Yet, those very cherished ideals are still alive, and they live within the DA.

Mandela’s dream was to see this nation governed for the people, by the people.

You see, my fellow Democrats,

Winning the City of Tshwane is the first step towards taking the Union Buildings in 2019 and ensuring Madiba’s cherished ideas are realised – those which Zuma and his ANC have proverbially spat on.

That is why we are working tirelessly – day and night – to ensure that after 3 August, Tshwane is a blue city led by Solly Msimanga.

Our movement to honour the dream of Nelson Mandela is growing daily.

A Movement for Change that will sweep us towards the Union Buildings in 2019. Change that will bring freedom, fairness and opportunity for all and honour the dream of Nelson Mandela.

We are going to build a better South Africa for all.

Let’s make history of 3 August and vote out a government that has long forgotten the ideals and the dream of Nelson Mandela, and vote DA.

It’s only the DA, a Movement for Change that can create jobs, stop corruption and deliver better services. Only the DA, can deliver a better South Africa for all.

Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika! Let us live and strive for freedom in South Africa our land!
