The Democratic Alliance in Madibeng will fight power cuts by Eskom due to mismanagement and non-payment by the municipality.
Eskom gave notice that they will partially cut power supply to the area by the end of March 2016 due to debt of more than R22 million.
The following municipal areas will be affected: Brits CBD, Brits Town, Brits Industrial area, Damonsville, Oukasie, Lethlabile, Elandsrand
We will insist, like we did last year, that National Treasury pay Eskom on behalf of Madibeng out of the equitable share that Madibeng receives from National Treasury.
We will today write a letter to the Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan and request his assistance in the direct payment to Eskom.
The DA will also call an emergency meeting with the Municipal Manager Inergy Manaka on Monday.
The mismanagement and poor governance here affect the lives of all people and is a violation of our Constitution and basic human rights.
