The Democratic Alliance (DA) is in talks with Members of Parliament (MPs) as it tries to call another for another motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma, the opposition party said on Sunday.

While party leader Mmusi Maimane would not say who they were talking to, he said discussions were ongoing.

"MPs across the board are coming to say 'we need change'," he told reporters in Johannesburg.

He said they would explore legal options after the motion was not listed on the National Assembly's schedule for the coming week, despite having been provisionally scheduled for Thursday.

"The ANC [African National Congress] can't have its own processes," said Maimane.

Parliament under the leadership of Speaker Baleka Mbete had been "captured", he said.

In March, the ANC used its majority to quash a DA-led motion of no confidence in Zuma. On Sunday, an upbeat Maimane said they would appeal to all MPs to "vote with your convictions".

"The nation has lost confidence in Jacob Zuma. Why are you shielding him?" he asked.

"I'm comfortable and confident that South Africa will rise."

The DA's latest bid followed the release of former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's 'State of Capture' report on Wednesday. It detailed questionable links between Zuma's friends the Gupta family and several senior government officials.

Madonsela recommended that Zuma establish a commission of inquiry to look into the allegations of state capture.
