The Democratic Alliance welcomes that the Hawks will take over an investigation into the charges of corruption that we laid against the Tswaing municipality (CAS nr. 53/11/2016) last year.

These charges followed the municipality’s failure to pay over the pension fund and medical aid contributions for councillors and employees for the past few months.

A SAMWU strike currently bringing the whole municipality to a standstill and members and employees also did not receive salaries this month. All garnishee orders are also not honoured.

Serious damages are reported in the municipal buildings by the disgruntled employees.

It has also emerged that the ANC Chief Whip, Cllr Ananias Lenkaletse Noko, has received two salaries for this position and we are in possession of a letter where the Speaker PO Lobelo instructed the Chief Financial Officer to terminate one of the salaries. See letter here.

It was covered up until now but political infighting between supporters of the two factions resulted in the truth surfacing. The group opposing Cllr Noko demanded that the Speaker stop the double payments.

The ANC is corrupt from within their core and will never be able to save the people of Tswaing. They simply do not care about the plight of our people and will rather self-enrich than to serve the people.

Communities suffer without water for days and the bulk water supply has collapsed. We have also asked that NERSA (National Energy Regulator of SA) intervenes and rule that Eskom take over the electricity supply to the area – Tswaing simply does not have the capability to ensure sustainable electricity supply.

The people of Tswaing deserve a new beginning – without the ANC who cannot bring a better life for all. Only the DA can build better and safer communities.
