Reports that Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor, Danny Jordaan, this week handed over a large roll of bank notes to voters in NMB is a crystal clear example of the unethical and unlawful culture that the ANC presides over in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
Jordaan is reported in the media, seen by a first-hand witness, handing out a large roll of bank notes to home owners, which may amount to unlawful vote-buying and must be strongly condemned.
Danny Jordaan isn’t new to cash-handout scandals, and is still at the centre of a US$10 million bribe allegation for the 2010 World Cup.
The DA will today refer this latest Jordaan cash scandal to the NMB Council’s Ethics Committee for investigation and sanction against Jordaan.
The fact that the cash handover happened at a Municipal event, where the Mayor delivered a new RDP House, means that Jordaan was acting in his official Mayoral capacity.
Yesterday Jordaan spoke of this single home handover in a council sitting as if he had solved the Metro’s housing crisis by delivering just one home. This displays a complete disregard for the catastrophe that is plaguing the RDP housing programme in Nelson Mandela Bay. We need tens of thousands of units, not one.
Perhaps Mayor Jordaan has forgotten the Metro’s consistent violent protests against his administration’s inability to house desperate residents, or perhaps he is too distracted by his other external commitments.
The DA is set on winning Nelson Mandela Bay at next year’s elections, to vote in a full-time Mayor, to turn the Metro around, to deliver houses and to restore good service delivery.
The people of this Metro are not purchasable – and Mayor Jordaan must be sanctioned for this attempted vote-buying.
