A case of defeating the ends of justice has been registered against suspended national police commissioner Riah Phiyega.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed the case had been registered, but would not be drawn on the details.
"We can confirm a case was registered, but are unable to provide any further information as this is a case that is still under investigation," he said.
It was still unclear on what grounds Phiyega had been accused of defeating the ends of justice.
In October 2013, Phiyega was also accused of defeating the ends of justice and was investigated by police watchdog the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
The allegations surround claims that Phiyega tipped off Western Cape police commissioner Lieutenant General Arno Lamoer about investigations against him.
The docket was investigated and referred to the National Prosecuting Authority for a decision, with the director of public prosecutions declining to pursue the case in court.
