COSATU Free State hereby acknowledges the meeting of South African Medical Association Trade Union (SAMATU) a COSATU affiliate drawing its members from doctors from both public and private sector which took place on July 19, 2014 at the University of the Free State.

We are excited by the fact that finally we have a properly constituted structure of SAMATU in the Free State which will seek to unite our doctors and represent their collective interests. The meeting came at a very critical time when the Department of Health is facing serious challenges with regard to service delivery of health services in the Province due to various factors with financial challenges being at the top.

We are encouraged by the passion and commitment shown by SAMATU members to their work and serving the communities. We also welcome the resolve of SAMATU in mandating their leadership to engage with the Department of Health to seek lasting solutions to the current Health crises.

The Provincial Executive Committee has been elected as follows

Secretary General: Dr. Mathabo Hlahane
Treasurer: Dr. Deon Menge
Provincial Coordinator: Dr. Ambrose Letsele

We wish to welcome the newly elected leaders within COSATU Provincial Executive Committee and are looking forward to working together as a collective for the benefit of the workers and the working class.
