COSATU Free State would be taking the battle to the doorsteps of our employers and some institutions that have an impact on our daily lives whilst commemorating our Workers Day under the theme ’Celebrating 30 Years and defending Collective Bargaining, Jobs and Workers Rights.’
This May Day would not be commemorated in a form of a rally but workers would be engaging in a march to deliver a memorandum of demands on issues affecting our right and our daily lives.
Our list of demands to respective employers and organizations are as follows:
1. Treasury: To highlight our objection Tax Law Amendment Act and demand that it should be scrapped.
2. SALGA: To demand that the problems in Metsimaholo, Moqhaka and Mohokare to be resolved.
3. BUSA: In defense of trade unions and collective bargaining and the enforcement non-trading holidays
4. Agri-SA: To highlight our objections against the Farm Evictions and attacks on the farming community
5. Human Rights Commission: To demand that the HRC should play an active role in dealing racism and not remain as if they are referees in a football game and waiting for racist events to take place
6. Department of Labour: To demand the complete scrapping of the Labour Brokers in all sectors of our economy
7. Eskom: To raise our objection to the high electricity tariffs
8. Department of Basic Education: To demand action to deal with the problems in advancing public education.
9. Department of Health: To demand the immediate implementation of NHI and immediate termination of Buthelezi EMS Contract in favour of the internal EMS.
10. SANRAL: To demand that the De Beers Bypass should not go ahead as proposed by SANRAL but rather a shorter version of addressing the problems at Van Reenen’s Pass
11. Telkom: To demand a stop to the proposed retrenchments and that Telkom should create employment
12. SAPO: To demand the turnaround strategy to save the South African Post office and urge them to present themselves to Home Affairs to benefit from the issuing of Passports and other services which have been given to banks
13. SAPS: To demand the removal of General Dewet from the Provincial Human Resource Management who seems to think that SAPS Free State is an inheritance for him and he can treat African staff as a nuisance!
