The Province that is internationally known for its magnificent breathtaking sightseeing tourist attractions which brings many international tourists every year in the country and which is affectionately known as South African” Playground”, that is undoubtedly contributing to the Gross Domestic Product of South Africa is unfortunately defaced into South African “murder ground”.

Congress of the People Youth Movement is deeply concerned about the dreadful killings of leaders of political parties like NFP which lost twenty one (21) members since its establishment, including Mthunzi Gwala, was found lying on the road with four gunshot wounds to the head at Umlazi T-section on Saturday and the recent killing of ANC chief Whip in Ugu district Municipality, Wandile Mkhize. Because these killings are likely to drag this province back to the dark days of political hostility that marked the mid 1980’s during apartheid regime.

These killings have prospects of depriving our people in Kwa-Zulu Natal a democracy that they should enjoy without intimidation and fear, more especially as we are heading to national elections in 2014. Timidity may devastate our people in this province as there will always be a question of who is next regarding this cold murdering’s.

We are convinced that if the investigations into these killings are to be conducted by ordinary police force, justice to the families that lost precious lives of their beloved ones wouldn’t be delivered. We are calling for high profile law enforcement agencies like the Hawks to expedite investigations and apprehend people who committed these heinous crimes.

Nevertheless arresting these criminals won’t serve as a solution to this social ill, but campaigns and summits for political tolerance must be run in this province and the National Department of Arts and Culture and Independent Electoral Commission should take the lead in bringing, unifying and strengthening communities in these province in their diversities not again to traverse violent political hostilities, but defend the peaceful gains that were fought for since the advent of democracy.

We think that it is very important for the government to play a meaningful role in this regard more especially when we are celebrating the live of a globally renowned state man, first democratically elected President, Nelson Mandela who fought against hatred, enmity and animosity for people to live in peace with each other.
