The two-day conference will be held in Johannesburg to discuss successes on the promotion of equality since 1994 and the development of equality jurisprudence in South Africa.
It will also assess the progress made by equality courts in preventing and dealing with unfair discrimination cases.
Justice and Constitutional Development Deputy Minister Johnny de Lange will deliver the official opening speech at the conference.
The SAHRC says despite the fact that South Africa has a progressive Constitution, Employment Equity Act and Promotion of Equality and the Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act; inequality and discrimination in education, health status, access to land, income and employment still persist.
The conference will also seek to identify challenges hindering the promotion of equality in this second decade of democracy.
It is expected to make suggestions on how substantive equality can be achieved.
Key conference speakers will include Professor Shadrack Gutto, Head of Center for African Renaissance Studies at the University of South Africa, Willie Madisha, the President of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, Flip Buys of the Solidarity Union and Advocate Dali Mpofu from Altron.
Others are Employment Equity Commissioner Advocate Thuli Madonsela, Constitutional Court Judge Kate O'Regan and Zolani Mtshotshisa of Mvelaphanda Holdings. – BuaNews.
