Brand South Africa congratulates the Congress of South African Trade Unions’ (Cosatu) on their election of their first female President Ms Zingiswa Losi, and all the newly elected leaders, during the four-day congress in Midrand, on the 18 September 2018.

Ms Losi previously served as Second Deputy President to Cosatu and is a member of the African National Congress National Executive Committee. She served in various Numsa committees until she rose to the position of Cosatu Second Deputy-President.

In an interview, Ms Losi said, “Women need to take their rightful place. Women are capable leaders who have capacity and intellect to lead.”

“As we celebrate the centenary of Mama Sisulu under the theme “woman of fortitude”, we couldn’t agree more. This appointment is truly a history defining moment for women in the country, reaffirming the need for them to lead in building a better South Africa for workers and the underprivileged. We congratulate Ms Losi and believe she will be an exemplary leader in executing her role and leading Cosatu with great success,” said Brand South Africa’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Ms Thembi Kunene-Msimang.

“As Ms Losi redefines the role of women in the workplace and society, I am certain she has the full support of the women of our Nation for whom this appointment is a sign of a more optimistic future for women in the country.  Women are standing firmly together and becoming leaders for their own emancipation and equality in the work environment”, added Ms Kunene-Msimang.
