Basha Uhuru Youth Festival, Constitution Hill’s flagship arts festival, presents “Sounds of Freedom”, the music festival to culminate a month-long commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the 1976 student uprisings. This is in commemoration of the 1976 youth who selflessly took the stand, aired their views, with some paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom today.

The concert celebrates the ultimate historical paradox; Constitution Hill was the site at which the ’76 youth was incarcerated; but today stands as a monument where the essential foundations of our democracy are being built daily through the some of the flagship rulings at the precinct that further entrench our democracy.

Now in its 4th year, the festival has been a melting pot of the creative arts, fusing together art exhibitions, film screenings, theatre productions, creative networking sessions, and panel discussions tackling access to free higher education.

On the 25th June 2016, the Basha Uhuru Music Festival will light up Jozi! Kicking off with a heritage cycling challenge from Hector Pieterson Museum to ConHill the day will then have a time-travel tour which will re-enact the events of the 16th June 1976 from Orlando to the former “Number 4 prison” at ConHill. Market @ The Fort, ConHill’s monthly lifestyle market, will be a fusion of food, fashion, and accessories to complement the Basha Uhuru music concert!
