As eThekwini Region we want to pay tribute to the ANC leadership and volunteers of the ANC who demonstrated unity ahead of the by-election.

Indeed, ANC has cocked a snook at the opposition by overwhelmingly trouncing the DA in a crucial by-election in Chatsworth last night.

In a foretaste of what is to come in the 2019 elections, the ANC walloped the DA with 469 and its candidate Previn Vedan won in ward 71.

The ANC is humbled by the vote of confidence bestowed on it by the people of Chatsworth and ward 71 in particular.

This victory is a reflection of the continued growth of the ANC and the confidence the people have on this ANC of Yusuf Dadoo, Monty Naicker, Billy Nair, Mewa Ramgobin, Illa Gandhi, Fatima Meer and many others.

Importantly, as the ANC we believe that the election of Cde Previn marks the beginning of a new chapter in Ward 71 and Chatsworth as a whole. We are committed to ensure the unity of our people across racial lines in order to build a winning municipality.

Following this victory we want to emphasize that ANC deployees in eThekwini municipal council are committed to working with all members of political parties in order to achieve a better life for all.

This co-operative approach is based on the understanding that in a democratic society such as ours, those elected must work together to institute necessary interventions for the acceleration of service delivery.

The REC in eThekwini remains committed to sustaining the positive mood that has been prevailing over the past few weeks. We still maintain that it is a strong and united ANC that will ensure the transformation of our society.

Our message has not changed. We will act in unity in order to fulfil the mandate given to us. Our councillors will take joint ownership for the development of our respective wards including Ward 71.

Importantly, the Thuma Mina campaign has provided us with an opportunity to work with all communities to strengthen service delivery.
