The African National Congress (ANC) Parliamentary Caucus yesterday commended Parliament's decision to establish an ad-hoc committee to deliberate President Kgalema Motlanthe's recommendation on the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Vusi Pikoli.
This committee would advise Parliament whether to accept or reject the President's recommendation regarding the dismissal of Pikoli.
In order to ensure that the ANC played a valuable role in the deliberations, the ruling party announced a list of fourteen ANC Members of Parliament to form part of the committee.
The ANC emphasised the importance of the committee as it would "afford all parties in Parliament an opportunity to conduct a thorough assessment of the facts" before making a decision on the Pikoli matter.
The ANC Parliamentary Caucus also commented on the Supreme Court of Appeal decision on Jacob Zuma, saying that it respected the ruling.
The Caucus stressed that the judgement had nothing to do with the guilt or innocence of the ANC President, and made no pronouncements on the merits of charges previously brought against him by the National Prosecuting Authority.
The Caucus said that Jacob Zuma remained innocent of any charge.
