South Africa is the newest target tourism market for the energetically evolving destination that is Abu Dhabi which has appointed Johannesburg-based Development Promotions, a specialist travel representation agency, to position it as a preferred destination among holidaymakers and business travellers in South Africa, and the travel industry.

The focus on South Africa comes as South African Airways announces daily flights between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi from March, adding additional air capacity to the daily frequency already operated by Etihad Airlines.

“It is in direct response to this opportunity presented by an increase in airlift from the region and increased demand that TCA Abu Dhabi has launched this outbound tourism promotional drive from Africa,” says Sultan Al Dhaheri, TCA Abu Dhabi’s Acting Executive Director Tourism.

Abu Dhabi’s status as a preferred destination for travellers who enjoy culture, gastronomy, shopping, sports and activities is growing exponentially. Not to mention the business and investment opportunities that the destination holds, explains Development Promotions Managing Director Jackie Adami.

“We are excited about the opportunity to market such a diverse and dynamic destination in the South African market.”

The dedicated TCA Abu Dhabi South Africa team will have a unique opportunity to build South Africa’s stopover, cruising and Halal Tourism market showcasing, among other experiences and attractions the luxury Jumeirah at Etihad Towers; Yas Island, home to the stunning Yas Marina Circuit, home to the annual F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and Yas Waterworld; Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – the world’s largest indoor theme park with the world’s fastest roller coaster; Emirates Palace, which is one of the world’s most opulent hotels; the iconic Capital Gate Tower, the world’s furthest leaning tower; the Saadiyat Cultural District; and of course the Arabian hospitality for which Abu Dhabi is so famous.

The destination will also see the launch of two of the world’s most recognisable cultural icons in the near future: The Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, as well as the development of the new Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal and Abu Dhabi International Airport's new midfield terminal complex.

South African travellers will soon be exposed to such exciting events as the F1 Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and fantastic summer season that TCA Abu Dhabi South Africa will launch to the South African market shortly.
