Newspapers are widely reporting that information regarding the national rollout of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act leaked to them and that the national rollout of AARTO will be on the first of April 2012.
Mr. Collins Letsoalo, acting CEO of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) confirmed this but declined to comment on whether the demerit point system will also become effective. Lesoalo confirmed that their systems are ready and that most of the problems experienced in the past have been resolved.
The highly anticipated AARTO summit will take place in February where after it is expected that the amended AARTO regulations will be published and a new date for implementation to be proclaimed by President Zuma.
OUTSTANDING INFRINGEMENTS IN PRETORIA OR JOHANNESBURG?
Mr. Japh Chuwe, registrar of the RTIA, informed the JMPD and Tshwane that as from the 16th of January 2012 no driver’s or vehicle licences will be renewed if outstanding infringements are not paid. The eNaTIS block will only be lifted once all outstanding infringements have been settled. This is a further step in the “testing” phase of the AARTO.
We will keep our subscribers up to date with further developments and our next AARTO public courses, specifically designed to focus on the impact AARTO will have on businesses, as well as our AARTO training DVD that will assist employers in familiarizing drivers and other employees with AARTO.
