The Department of Mineral Resources, Chamber of Mines and the National Union of Mineworkers invite all media to attend and cover the 3rd annual Mining Lekgotla to be hosted on the 13th-14th August 2014 at Gallagher Estate, Johannesburg.
This year’s Lekgotla will be convened under the theme: Building on the contribution of mining since the advent of Democracy- The past we acknowledge and the future we build.Discussions under this theme will be led by Mineral Resources minister, Advocate Ngoako Ramathlodi with the President of the Chamber of Mines, Mr. Mike Teke, General Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers, Mr. Frans Baleni, Mr Gideon Du Plessis, General Secretary of Solidarity.
This year’s programme will also reflect on the past 20 years as the sector celebrates its achievements; in this regard.
The Lekgotla will see engagement with the former Minister of Minerals & Energy and former Deputy President, Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka leading discussions reflecting on transformation as the champion during the formative years of our democracy under the theme; TRANSFORMATION - THE KEY TO THE FUTURE.
The programme will also touch on the challenges that prevent growth, and align the Africa Mining Vision 2030 roadmap to the framework of the National Development Plan. Dr. Nkosazana-Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union will lead discussions.
